Card Games

Each game below has its own hub that connects its expansions, card types, mechanics and history.

Not sure where to start?

Pokémon is a friendly entry point for newer readers because of its familiar characters. Magic is a good choice if you want to see deep rules design. Yu-Gi-Oh! is a good fit if you like the anime and want to understand its card types and summoning rules. You can also jump straight into the card explorer.

How the three games differ

All three games share the basics: you build a deck, draw cards, and try to win a duel. They differ in the details. Pokémon uses Energy cards that you attach to your Pokémon, and you win by taking Prize cards. Magic uses lands that produce mana in five colors, and you win by reducing your opponent's life total. Yu-Gi-Oh! uses fixed zones on the table, tribute and special summoning rules, and Life Points. For a fair side-by-side look, read Pokémon vs. Magic vs. Yu-Gi-Oh!.

What each hub contains

Each game hub lists the game's expansions, featured cards, card types, mechanics, rarities, archetypes and historical periods, with links to the full pages. If you prefer to learn how a game plays first, start with the turn guides: Pokémon, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
