Pokémon card
Charizard-GX in the Hidden Fates Shiny Vault shows the famous Fire-type Pokémon in its shiny color, which is a dark, nearly black version in the games. It is a Pokémon-GX, a modern special group.
This card matters to collectors for two reasons: it mixes the beloved Charizard with the shiny variant, and it comes from a special set rather than a standard expansion.
It is the clearest example of a theme-driven special set from the Sun & Moon years. Read more about Hidden Fates.
As a Pokémon-GX it carries the extra risk of giving up more than one Prize card when knocked out.
Rules and wording change between printings and over time. For official rules, check the publisher's own materials.
Three labels do the work here. The stage says Stage 2, so it evolves from a Charmeleon form. The GX in the name marks a Pokémon-GX, a special group from the Sun & Moon era. And the rarity says Rare Shiny GX.
That rarity label has a precise meaning. Shiny means an alternate-color version of a Pokémon. Hidden Fates collected these in a separate numbered group called the Shiny Vault. Card databases list those cards as shiny rares, so this one reads as Rare Shiny GX. It is not a Holo Rare like the 1999 card, and it does not carry the modern Double Rare label either.
The art shows Charizard in a dark, nearly black color, since that is its shiny look in the games. GX cards also have a once-per-game GX attack.
The natural pair is Charizard ex. Both are modern Stage 2 Charizards with a special rule box, but the ex card comes from Scarlet & Violet—151 in 2023 and is a Double Rare. The GX comes from a theme-driven special set in 2019.
Compare it also with Base Set Charizard. That card has no special group, no Shiny Vault and no extra Prize rule. For the set itself, see Hidden Fates.
When this card is knocked out, the opponent takes more than one Prize card. Strong effects come with a bigger risk.
This site does not give prices or print counts. Rare Shiny is a label for the card type.
