Scarlet & Violet—151 is a celebration of the original 151 Pokémon from the first video games. It takes the nostalgic part of the franchise and prints it in the modern card style.

The set is known for its Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare cards, where the artwork extends across much of the card and tells a small scene. These styles changed how many collectors judge a card.

Because it revisits the original Pokémon with current rules, 151 is a handy bridge between the oldest and newest eras of the game.

What to look for in this set

How to explore this set

Scarlet & Violet—151 suits readers who know the original Pokémon and want to see them in current style. Open Mew ex first. It gives the set its name and number, since Mew is the 151st Pokémon in the original Pokédex, and it carries a modern Ability.

Then open Charizard ex, a Stage 2 that evolves from Charmeleon. Set it next to the 1999 Charizard and look at the frame, the artwork and the rarity label. That pairing shows how much changed in about a quarter of a century.

The set also has Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare cards, where the picture extends across much of the card. To learn how those labels work, read the rarities page.

Because it revisits the original Pokémon with current rules, 151 is also a handy bridge for anyone who wants to compare the oldest and newest eras without learning a whole new roster.

What changed after it

The data on this site stops at September 2023, when this set arrived in the Scarlet & Violet era. That era returned to the name Pokémon ex, added Terastal Pokémon, and brought the artwork-focused rare styles. We do not cover later releases yet. For the long view, go back to Base Set, the starting point this set looks back to.
