Pokémon card
Mew ex is the card that gives Scarlet & Violet—151 its name and number, since Mew is the 151st Pokémon in the original Pokédex. It is a Basic Psychic Pokémon with a modern Ability.
The set also has special-art versions of Mew ex that collectors discuss for the artwork. The standard version is a good place to learn how modern rarity labels work.
It connects the original Pokémon to the newest card styles. Read more about Scarlet & Violet—151.
As a Pokémon ex it gives up extra Prize cards when knocked out, while its Ability supports the deck's draw.
Rules and wording change between printings and over time. For official rules, check the publisher's own materials.
The name carries the clue: lowercase "ex" means the 2023 version of the Pokémon ex group. Earlier eras used Pokémon-ex and Pokémon-EX, so the spelling helps you date the card at a glance. The stage says Basic and the type is Psychic, so this card can start a game.
The rarity marker says Double Rare, a modern label for Pokémon ex in the Scarlet & Violet era, marked with two stars. It is not one of the Illustration Rare styles, where the artwork stretches across the card.
Next, look for the Ability. It is a special effect that is not an attack, and on this card it supports drawing cards. The number 151 in the set name matches Mew's place in the original Pokédex.
Take Mewtwo from Base Set. Both are Basic Psychic Pokémon from the first video games. The older card has a Holo Rare label and a Pokémon Power. Mew ex has a Double Rare label, an Ability and an extra-Prize rule.
Then compare it with Charizard ex, which shares the set and rarity but is a Stage 2 Fire card. That pair shows that a Basic and a Stage 2 can sit side by side in one rarity. For the set story, read Scarlet & Violet—151.
The set revisits the original 151 Pokémon, and Mew is the 151st.
